Aaron Cassidy, Accessing Child Pornography, Maine 2015

Aaron Cassidy, 48, a former Falmouth resident, has pleaded guilty to accessing child pornography in Maine, according to federal court records.

The crime was committed in March 2015, when agents with Homeland Security Investigations were investigating the sharing of child pornography using Ares, a peer-to-peer file-sharing program.

Agents downloaded a child pornography video from an internet protocol address assigned to a residence in Falmouth and obtained a search warrant for the residence in May 2015.

During the search, they found a laptop computer in Cassidy’s bedroom that contained evidence of the Ares file-sharing program, as well as images and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Cassidy faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release of at least five years and up to life.

A federal district court judge will determine Cassidy’s sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.

Cassidy will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
