ABBAS ATEIA AL HUSSAINAWEE, 40, Charged with Providing Stolen Cell Phones to Organized Crime Ring in Minnesota
ABBAS ATEIA AL HUSSAINAWEE, 40, has been charged with acting as a runner for an organized crime ring in Minnesota, accused of providing stolen cell phones to the Mustafa Organization.
According to the criminal complaint, AL HUSSAINAWEE was charged on December 19, 2014, in U.S. District Court in St. Paul, Minn., with conspiracy to engage in interstate transportation of stolen goods, specifically cell phones and other electronic devices.
The investigation, led by the St. Paul Police Department, United States Secret Service, and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, uncovered a large-scale operation in which the Mustafa Organization and their associates illegally obtained cellular telephones and other mobile devices for the purpose of trafficking them throughout the United States and internationally.
AL HUSSAINAWEE allegedly regularly traveled to other states, including Michigan, Illinois, and Missouri, to steal phones, often breaking into businesses adjacent to cell phone stores and then gaining entry to the cell phone store by breaking through the wall.
On November 27, 2012, AL HUSSAINAWEE burglarized a Best Buy in Maplewood, Minn., stealing 48 cellular phones, 20 iPads, and five tablet computers. On December 12, 2014, he burglarized a Verizon Store in Buffalo, Minn., stealing $33,015 in cell phones.
AL HUSSAINAWEE was also charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine after agents discovered a backpack containing approximately 268 grams of methamphetamine at his home in Minneapolis.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Steven Schleicher and John Marti are prosecuting the case, which is the result of an ongoing investigation into the Mustafa Organization’s activities.
