Grimy Times has learned that Jabori Huntsberry, a 36-year-old Abbeville man, has been found guilty of shipping marijuana to himself in a brazen scheme that spanned over two years.
According to court documents, Huntsberry used U.S. mail to receive packages of marijuana from a California source from October 2011 to February 2014. Evidence revealed that he had money transferred to a California contact before each package was sent, and he even shipped marijuana to himself at different addresses and names.
The scheme was uncovered by United States Postal Inspectors who discovered that Huntsberry had shipped approximately 200 kilograms of marijuana to himself during the conspiracy. The total amount of money electronically transferred to the source in California was nearly $300,000.
A search of Huntsberry’s home produced a notebook documenting drug activity, U.S. Postal Service mail labels, money transfer receipts, a Ruger model P-89, 9 mm semiautomatic pistol, and a Romarm Model CUGIR, 7.62X39 semiautomatic rifle.
Huntsberry’s actions have landed him in a world of trouble, facing 10 years to life in prison, at least five years of supervised release and a $10 million fine. Sentencing has been set for December 6, 2018.
The investigation was conducted by the ATF, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jamilla A. Bynog and John Luke Walker prosecuting the case.
