Brookelyn Marie Lindquist, a 42-year-old resident of Waterloo, Iowa, was sentenced to 71 months in federal prison on June 10, 2024, for her role in distributing fentanyl and heroin into a local jail.
Lindquist pleaded guilty on January 11, 2024, to one count of distribution of a controlled substance. She had been sending packages to an inmate, who was awaiting sentencing for a federal drug trafficking conviction. The packages contained a dangerous mixture of fentanyl and heroin, which led to the inmate suffering a near-fatal overdose.
Lindquist herself was on state parole at the time due to another drug trafficking conviction. Her actions were particularly heinous as they endangered the lives of inmates and staff within the jail.
The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to her prison term, Lindquist must serve a three-year term of supervised release following her release from prison. The federal system does not offer parole for such offenses.
The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin and investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Waterloo Police Department, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, and Tri-County Drug Task Force.
