SIOUX FALLS – A former Aberdeen, SD street boss, Kaleb Lee Fletcher Kapit, 44, has been handed down a five-year federal prison sentence for his role in the methamphetamine trade. Judge Charles B. Kornmann delivered the verdict on August 18, 2025.
In what’s been described as a brutal takedown of local drug operations, Kapit was sentenced to five years behind bars, followed by five years of supervised release. The court also ordered him to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Kapit’s downfall began in February 2024 when he was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. He entered a guilty plea just over a year later, on May 19, 2025.
The evidence against Kapit was chilling. Law enforcement intercepted a package sent to him containing approximately one pound of methamphetamine, intended for distribution. The drugs were sent by his co-conspirator in what police called a ‘deliberate act of drug trafficking.’ Further investigation revealed that Kapit had been sending money to a contact in California on several occasions.
This case was a collaborative effort between the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Hodges prosecuted the case with vigor.
Following his sentencing, Kapit was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve out his sentence.
