Mira Health Scandal Exposed: Adulterated Supplements Sold to Public

A federal complaint and consent decree have been filed against Mira Health Ltd., its chief operating officer Michael S. Ragno Sr., and quality assurance manager Michael S. Ragno Jr. for manufacturing and distributing adulterated dietary supplements.

The United States filed the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Assistant Attorney General Stuart F. Delery and U.S. Attorney Loretta E. Lynch made the announcement.

The lawsuit alleges that Mira Health violated the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA) by failing to ensure that their products met specifications for identity, purity, strength, and composition. The company’s manufacturing facility was found to have inadequate systems in place, leading to contaminated and deteriorated products.

As a result of the FDA’s investigation, Mira Health’s products were found to contain adulterated ingredients, including anabolic steroids. In 2013, a recall was issued for Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity B-50 dietary supplement, which was linked to 29 illnesses and one hospitalization.

The consent decree requires Mira Health to cease all operations and obtain FDA approval before resuming manufacturing. The company’s failure to comply with the FDCA has put the public at risk, and the federal government is taking action to protect consumers.

Mira Health’s actions are a clear violation of the trust placed in dietary supplement manufacturers. The public expects these companies to prioritize their safety and well-being. The federal government will continue to hold companies accountable for their actions and ensure that they comply with federal regulations.

The case was filed on behalf of the United States by the Consumer Protection Branch of the Civil Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
