Montgomery, Alabama – In a scathing sentence, 45-year-old Jamecko Rontae Thomas, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, has been ordered to serve 130 months in federal prison for his role in sex trafficking a minor.
According to court records, Thomas pleaded guilty to sex trafficking of a minor, specifically admitting to engaging in a commercial sex act with a female who was under the age of 18 at the time in July 2021. A co-defendant arranged the encounter, and Thomas was aware of past incidents of commercial sex acts arranged by his co-defendant, as well as the use of narcotics to induce sex trafficking victims.
“Sex trafficking is a terrible crime—one that scars its victims for a lifetime,” said United States Attorney Jonathan S. Ross. “This prosecution should send a clear message that my office will hold all individuals accountable for their participation in child sex trafficking and child exploitation, whether they are the traffickers or merely patrons.”
As part of his sentence, Thomas will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. Federal prisoners are not eligible for parole. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Montgomery Police Department investigated this case.
Assistant United States Attorneys J. Patrick Lamb and Tara S. Ratz prosecuted the case, bringing it as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The heinous crime of sex trafficking will not be tolerated in our communities. This sentence should serve as a warning to those who would seek to exploit the most vulnerable among us. Thomas’s punishment is a testament to the tireless work of law enforcement and prosecutors who work tirelessly to bring these perpetrators to justice.
As the investigation and prosecution of sex trafficking cases continue to grow, so too will the consequences for those who engage in this heinous crime. The Grimy Times will continue to shine a light on these crimes and bring attention to the efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors working to keep our communities safe.
