Albuquerque Man Sentenced to 7 Years for Armed Pizza Robbery
An Albuquerque man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for robbing a pizza delivery person at gunpoint.
Xavior Akina, 21, was sentenced to 84 months in prison for violating the Hobbs Act by robbing a Papa John’s Pizza employee on March 7, 2016, with a firearm.
Akina will be on supervised release for three years after completing his prison sentence, according to a federal court ruling.
On March 7, 2016, Akina threatened the victim with a firearm and demanded money from the victim while the victim was delivering pizza, court documents revealed.
Akina was charged in a three-count indictment filed on May 10, 2016, for violating the Hobbs Act and brandishing a firearm during the two crimes of violence.
Akina pled guilty to the armed robbery of a Papa John’s pizza delivery person and to brandishing a firearm during the robbery on July 20, 2017.
This case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eva Fontanez, who secured the conviction.
Akina’s sentencing marks the end of a lengthy legal battle that began when he was charged with the armed robbery of a Domino’s Pizza employee at gunpoint on March 6, 2016.
