Albuquerque’s streets have been hit by a violent bank robber who has struck fear in the community. Daniel Ray Guliford, 39, is facing charges for a series of five armed bank robberies that spanned from Albuquerque to Rio Rancho over a year-long period.
According to court documents, Guliford allegedly entered banks wearing dark clothing and masks, brandishing handguns, and making off with large sums. The total thefts exceed $140,000. His first crime was on January 4, 2024, at the U.S. Bank in Albuquerque, where he made off with approximately $9,250. His fingerprints were later found on a note left at the scene.
The spree continued on March 21, 2024, at another U.S. Bank, netting Guliford an additional $26,650. This time, police linked the suspect to a black BMW that matched his own vehicle after a witness saw him flee.
On July 3, 2024, Guliford struck again at the Bank of Albuquerque with a take of $1,500. Just two days later, he made his largest single theft from New Mexico Bank & Trust in Rio Rancho, with $72,043. Once more, he fled the scene in his black BMW.
The final hit was July 24, 2025, at First Financial Credit Union in Albuquerque, where Guliford stole $31,261. Surveillance footage of a dark blue BMW matching his vehicle was caught on camera near the crime scene.
Guliford is now charged with bank robbery and faces up to 25 years in prison for each charge. His detention hearing is scheduled for August 1, 2025. U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, Philip Russell, announced the charges today. The investigation was a collaborative effort by the FBI and local law enforcement agencies, including the Albuquerque Police Department, Rio Rancho Police Department, Sandia Pueblo Police Department, and Pueblo of Isleta Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Elena Stiteler is prosecuting the case.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
