ALBUQUERQUE – In a grim wake-up call for financial institutions, James Patrick Verdream, 48, of Albuquerque, N.M., was today sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for his brazen April 2014 robbery of the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union.
The court also ordered Verdream to pay restitution to the credit union, where he made off with cash following a handwritten note demand. He was apprehended on May 5, 2014, in Arizona, charged with the crime.
Court documents reveal that on April 22, 2014, the bank robber arrived at the credit union by taxi and departed in the same vehicle shortly after his heist. Verdream’s identification was a combination of bank surveillance footage and testimonies from the taxi driver and his probation officer.
Verdream entered a guilty plea to the robbery charge on November 13, 2014. This case was brought to justice by the Albuquerque office of the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Mysliwiec leading the prosecution.
The heist serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by financial institutions in our community and underscores the commitment of law enforcement to protect local citizens and their assets.
