Curtis Wallace Pack, Jr., Heroin Trafficking, NM, 2013

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Curtis Wallace Pack, Jr., a 31-year-old from San Diego, Calif., was handed a 60-month federal prison sentence followed by four years of supervised release today for his guilty plea on heroin trafficking charges in New Mexico.

Pack’s downfall began on Sept. 12, 2013, when DEA agents at the Greyhound Bus Station in Albuquerque discovered over .95 kilograms of heroin hidden inside a gift-wrapped package he was carrying. The bust led to Pack’s October 2013 indictment for possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

In March 2014, Pack entered a guilty plea and confessed to his intent to distribute the heroin within Bernalillo County. The DEA’s Albuquerque Interdiction Unit, known for targeting drug flows into New Mexico, was instrumental in the investigation.

This case is part of the New Mexico Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) Initiative, a collaborative law enforcement effort aimed at reducing opioid-related deaths. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Mysliwiec prosecuted Pack under this initiative, which focuses on disrupting major heroin trafficking organizations.

The HOPE Initiative is a multifaceted approach involving prevention, treatment, and strategic planning, with the Organized Crime Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office leading law enforcement efforts alongside DEA partners.

TargetingPack as a member of a significant heroin organization aligns with the HOPE Initiative’s priority to protect New Mexico from the opioid crisis.
