Alburgh Couple Busted for Cocaine, Oxycodone Ring
A high-ranking municipal official and his wife have been sentenced to jail for their involvement in a large-scale cocaine and oxycodone trafficking operation in Alburgh, Vermont.
Bernard Savage, a 57-year-old former Alburgh Selectman, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for his role in distributing cocaine and oxycodone, while his wife Patricia Savage, also 57, was sentenced to one month in prison.
According to court documents, the Vermont Drug Task Force began an investigation into Bernard Savage in August 2014, following a string of controlled purchases of cocaine and oxycodone made by a confidential informant.
The investigation revealed that Savage was a major player in the local cocaine and oxycodone trade, boasting to the confidential informant that he had distributed over 2,500 pills in just two weeks.
On July 1, 2015, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the Savage residence, recovering 103 firearms, cocaine, opiate pills, marijuana, and other evidence of their illicit activities.
Savage was ordered to forfeit $75,000 to the government and pay a fine of $5,000. He will also be subject to a three-year term of supervised release upon completion of his sentence.
The case was investigated by the DEA, Vermont Drug Task Force, and the FBI, and is a stark reminder of the dangers of corruption and the importance of holding public officials accountable for their actions.
Bernard Savage is represented by Karen Shingler, while Patricia Savage is represented by Norman Blais. The United States is represented by Wendy Fuller.
