A Philadelphia man was sentenced to 2 years in prison for his role in a cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin trafficking ring in Vermont, federal authorities announced.
Rutland, Vermont – Jashier Gillespie, 22, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford to a term of 24 months’ imprisonment to be followed by a 3-year term of supervised release.
Gillespie pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute cocaine base, fentanyl and heroin in Vermont between October 2021 and January 2023. As part of his role in the organization, Gillespie served as a hand-to-hand distributor.
According to court records, Gillespie was arrested in late September 2022 on related state assault charges and has been detained since that time. Chief Judge Crawford ordered the federal sentence to run concurrently with any forthcoming state sentence on the assault charge.
“The Department of Justice is committed to dismantling and disrupting organized crime groups that traffic in illegal substances and threaten our communities,” said United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eugenia A. P. Cowles prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Burlington Police Department.
The case was part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to identifying, disrupting, and dismantling the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
Gillespie was represented by John C. Mabie, Esq. The case is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against organized crime and the devastating impact it has on communities.
