Jashier Gillespie, Drug Conspiracy, Vermont 2024

Rutland, VT – A Philadelphia man has been hit with a hard sentence for his role in a drug distribution conspiracy that spanned Vermont. Jashier Gillespie, 22, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, faced Chief United States District Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford on May 29, 2024, and was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment, followed by a 3-year term of supervised release.

Gillespie’s crime spree included the distribution of cocaine base, fentanyl, and heroin in Vermont between October 2021 and January 2023. According to court records, he served as a hand-to-hand distributor for the drug trafficking organization he was part of. His arrest on related state assault charges came in late September 2022, with Gillespie remaining detained since.

The federal sentence ordered by Chief Judge Crawford will run concurrently with any future state sentence for the assault charge. United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest praised the collaborative efforts of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Homeland Security Investigations, and the Burlington Police Department in bringing Gillespie to justice.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Eugenia A. P. Cowles led the prosecution of the case, while John C. Mabie, Esq., represented Gillespie. The investigation was conducted under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a multi-agency approach aimed at dismantling high-level criminal organizations.
