Philadelphia Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Sex Trafficking
CAMDEN, N.J. – In a harsh verdict, a Philadelphia man was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for his role in a despicable sex trafficking ring. Mallie M. Evans, 37, a self-serving individual, has been brought to justice for his heinous crimes.
Evans previously pleaded guilty to a count of the indictment against him charging him with transporting any individual in interstate commerce with the intent that such individual engage in prostitution. This plea deal was accepted by U.S. District Judge Karen M. Williams on May 23, 2024, in Camden federal court.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Evans recruited and coerced multiple victims to engage in prostitution for his financial benefit between 2015 and 2017. The victims were transported across state lines between Philadelphia and central and southern New Jersey to engage in prostitution. Evans used his cunning and ruthless tactics, employing fraud, emotional manipulation, physical violence, and threats of death and bodily injury to coerce the victims into engaging in commercial sex acts for his benefit.
This case was the result of a diligent investigation led by special agents of the FBI, Newark Division, Trenton Resident Agency, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander E. Ramey of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Criminal Division in Trenton.
“Evans thought he could exploit and abuse these vulnerable individuals for his own gain, but the law has caught up with him,” said U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. “This sentence is a testament to our commitment to holding sex traffickers accountable for their crimes.”
Evans’ sentence includes an additional 10 years of supervised release. This sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in similar crimes: the law will not tolerate your abuse of power and exploitation of the innocent.
