Guatemalan National Living in Maryland Charged with Unlawful Transportation of Individual in Vermont
Alex Alejandro-Cordero, also known as Alejandro Guerro-Soto and Enio Alejandro Cordero, 36, of Adelphi, Maryland, appeared in federal court on a charge alleging that he unlawfully transported an individual he knew to have entered the United States illegally.
The crime allegedly took place on or about August 18, 2022, in Vermont.
Alex Alejandro-Cordero is charged with one count of unlawful transportation of an individual, in violation of 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1)(A)(ii), for which he faces up to 5 years of imprisonment if convicted.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office notes that a criminal complaint is an accusation only, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The United States Sentencing Guidelines will advise any sentence in the case.
U.S. Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest credited the agents of the United States Border Patrol with their quick response and investigation of Alejandro-Cordero and their continued efforts to prevent the exploitation of foreign nationals by human-smuggling organizations.

A U.S. Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle ordered Alejandro-Cordero detained pending further proceedings in the case.
