Shawn Snead, 33, of St. Johnsbury, Sentenced to 36 Months for Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl
A 33-year-old man from St. Johnsbury, Vermont, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation. Shawn Snead, a resident of St. Johnsbury, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl after working with a co-conspirator to sell the deadly opioid in February and March 2024.
According to a recent press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont, Snead was sentenced to 24 months for the fentanyl conspiracy. However, his sentence was compounded by an additional 12 months for violating the terms of his supervised release. Snead had been released from federal supervision in 2022 but was caught selling fentanyl just two years later.
The operation, which involved multiple controlled purchases of fentanyl, was a brazen attempt to continue Snead’s involvement in the illicit drug trade despite being under federal supervision. Snead’s offenses are a stark reminder of the dangers of recidivism and the need for robust law enforcement efforts to combat the scourge of fentanyl trafficking.
Acting United States Attorney Michael P. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nicole Cate and Michelle Arra. Snead was represented by Assistant Federal Public Defender Steven Barth.
