A Lancaster man will spend the next decade and a half behind bars for his involvement in a despicable crime.

Alexander Grupp, 33, of Lancaster, New York, was sentenced to 180 months in prison and 10 years supervised release by Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford on February 27, 2023, for receiving child pornography.

This is not Grupp’s first run-in with the law regarding child exploitation. In March 2018, he was convicted in New York State Court of Possessing Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child less than sixteen years of age and sentenced, in part, to 10 years’ probation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright, who handled the case, stated that Grupp communicated with a 15-year-old girl using the instant messaging application, Discord, in October 2022. During these conversations, Grupp persuaded the victim to send him nude pictures of herself.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Philip Tejera. Wright highlighted the severity of the charges, stating that Grupp’s actions demonstrate a clear disregard for the well-being of a minor.

Grupp’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of exploiting children. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice.

The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of online interactions and the importance of monitoring children’s activities on the internet.
