Omaha Man Sentenced for Sex Trafficking of a Minor
A federal court in Omaha has handed down a 250-month prison sentence to Glenn Whitney, 26, for sex trafficking a minor. The sentence was imposed on no date specified by The Honorable Brian C. Buescher. This case marks a significant blow to the sex trafficking epidemic in the region.
The investigation into Whitney’s activities began in September 2020, after an Omaha foster child went missing. Federal agents soon discovered that the 16-year-old victim had been engaged in commercial sex acts in the Omaha area, with Whitney directing the minor victim on where to conduct the acts and how much to charge. Additionally, Whitney received financial proceeds from those acts.
Glenn Whitney, a 26-year-old resident of Omaha, has been found guilty of Sex Trafficking of a Minor. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet. It also aims to identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Omaha Police Department, and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. After his release from prison, Whitney will serve 5 years of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.
The sentencing of Glenn Whitney serves as a reminder of the severity of sex trafficking crimes and the importance of continued efforts to combat this epidemic. It also highlights the critical role that law enforcement agencies play in identifying and rescuing victims.
