NEW ORLEANS – A Nicaraguan national has been charged with a serious crime in the United States. Alexander Josue Reyes-Ramirez, a 36-year-old man, has been accused of illegal re-entry into the country.

According to an indictment filed on December 8, 2022, Reyes-Ramirez re-entered the United States after he was previously deported on December 18, 2013. The indictment charges him with one count of illegal re-entry of a removed alien in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

U.S. Attorney Duane Evans announced the indictment, stating that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Evans also commended the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Carter K. D. Guice, Jr. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana emphasizes that this case is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
