Nava-delgadillo Charged with Illegal Reentry
Ramiro Nava-delgadillo, a 33-year-old citizen of Mexico, has been indicted for illegal reentry by an alien previously removed, according to a federal grand jury. The indictment was announced by U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.
According to the indictment, Nava-delgadillo was found in the United States, within the Eastern District of Louisiana, on April 10, 2013, without having obtained consent from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reapply for admission to the United States. This is a felony charge, as Nava-delgadillo had previously been convicted of a felony prior to his previous removal.
If convicted, Nava-delgadillo faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a fine of $250,000.00, and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U.S. Attorney Boente reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The case was investigated by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE). The prosecution is being handled by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
Nava-delgadillo’s case is a prime example of the serious consequences of violating U.S. immigration laws. As a previously convicted felon, he is now facing a lengthy prison sentence and hefty fine. The people of Louisiana deserve to know that those who break the law will be held accountable.
