Illegal Reentry Lands Jose Roberto Pacheco-Alvarado Behind Bars

A 23-year-old Honduran citizen is facing serious consequences after being charged with illegal reentry by an alien previously removed, announced U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente. Jose Roberto Pacheco-Alvarado, a citizen of Honduras, was found in the United States, within the Eastern District of Louisiana, without having obtained consent from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reapply for admission to the United States.

According to the indictment, this is not Pacheco-Alvarado’s first run-in with the law. He was previously removed from the country and has a prior felony conviction.

The indictment alleges that Pacheco-Alvarado, on or about April 29, 2013, re-entered the United States without permission. If convicted, he faces a maximum term of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U.S. Attorney Boente emphasized that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE). Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir is handling the prosecution.
