Jaime Santiago-Corona, a 33-year-old Mexican alien, is accused of killing 6-year-old Calli in a car crash in Pitt County, North Carolina, on July 3, 2026. Santiago-Corona, who has been deported three times, allegedly ran a stop sign and crashed into a car driven by Calli’s mother, injuring her and her 4-year-old daughter. The crash occurred at the intersection of County Home Road and Warren Jones Road.

Santiago-Corona has a long history of violating immigration laws, having been deported on October 9, 2019, June 12, 2023, and again on June 17, 2024. A federal grand jury indicted Santiago-Corona on July 22 with illegal reentry of a previously removed alien, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 2 years in federal prison and deportation. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat illegal immigration and violent crime.

The US Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Ellis Boyle, announced the indictment. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE-ERO) is investigating the case.
