Erik Roberto Machado-Mencia, a 37-year-old Honduran native, was busted by US Border Patrol agents on Interstate 12 near Lacombe, Louisiana, on May 15, 2025, for re-entering the country without permission after being deported in 2019. Machado-Mencia was sentenced to three months in federal prison on July 30, 2026, for his crime. The case started when agents stopped a vehicle with a fake license plate and found Machado-Mencia, who had been previously removed from the US, inside.
The US Attorney’s Office said Machado-Mencia’s re-entry was a violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a). US Attorney David I. Courcelle praised the US Border Patrol for their work in investigating the matter. Assistant US Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr. handled the prosecution.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide effort to stop illegal immigration and protect communities from violent crime. The operation aims to eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations and achieve total elimination of these groups.
