Medina-Ayala’s case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational crime. The operation involves the Department of Justice and various law enforcement agencies, including the US Border Patrol and ICE.
US District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown sentenced Medina-Ayala to time served and a $100 special assessment fee. He will also be transferred to ICE custody for removal to Honduras. The prosecution was handled by Assistant US Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman of the General Crimes Unit.
