Oblan Antonio Canales-Martinez, a 51-year-old Honduran national, was found in the United States without authorization in Metairie, Louisiana, on December 13, 2025. He had previously been deported on July 18, 2005, and was caught re-entering the country after federal agents followed his truck to a gas station. Canales-Martinez attempted to flee and threw coffee in an agent’s face before being apprehended. He pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry of a removed alien and was sentenced to time served on July 9, 2026.
Canales-Martinez’s sentence comes as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational crime. The operation involves the Department of Justice and various law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations and the US Border Patrol.
According to court documents, Canales-Martinez was found to be the owner of a white Toyota Tundra, which was stopped at a Shell station on Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie. He was arrested after a brief chase and has been in federal custody since December 29, 2025.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr., with U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle praising the work of the investigating agencies. The sentence marks a successful outcome for Operation Take Back America, which seeks to protect communities from violent crime and perpetrators of transnational crime.
