Miguel Garza-Soluga, a 45-year-old Mexican national, was living illegally in Lufkin, Texas, when he was caught by authorities in August 2025. Garza-Soluga had been previously deported in 2020 and 2022, and had a history of felony convictions, including possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance. On July 23, 2026, he was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for his latest offense. Garza-Soluga’s case is part of a larger effort by the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration and protect communities from violent crime.
Garza-Soluga’s troubles with the law began long before his latest arrest. With prior convictions for serious crimes, he had already been deported twice before being caught again in the United States. His sentence reflects the seriousness with which the justice system takes immigration violations, particularly those committed by individuals with a history of violent or serious crime.
The case was investigated by the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Gaston prosecuted the case, which was part of the nationwide initiative known as Operation Take Back America. This initiative aims to eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and to protect communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
Garza-Soluga’s sentence serves as a warning to others who would attempt to re-enter the United States illegally, particularly those with a history of serious crime.
