Guadalupe Espinosa-Pena, Voter Fraud, North Carolina 2016

Raleigh, NC – A shocking case of voter fraud has come to light in North Carolina, with a 61-year-old Mexican national sentenced to prison for casting an illicit ballot in the 2016 General Election.

Guadalupe Espinosa-Pena, a lawful permanent resident whose application for United States citizenship had been denied, was handed a one-month prison sentence and one year of supervised release by United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan.

According to court records, Espinosa-Pena attempted to register to vote in North Carolina previously, but was informed he could not register as he was not a United States citizen. Despite this, he went on to complete a voter registration with an election official’s aid and registered to vote.

During the registration process, the election official allegedly advised Espinosa-Pena that ‘if he wanted his voice to be heard, he needed to vote.’ The defendant took this advice to heart, casting a ballot in the 2016 General Election in Wake County, North Carolina.

The case was investigated under the framework of the Document and Benefit Fraud Task Force (DBFTF) in the Eastern District of North Carolina, led by Homeland Security Investigations, among other agencies. The investigation into voting fraud is ongoing.

Espinosa-Pena’s actions have sparked outrage among local officials and voters, who are calling for greater scrutiny of voter rolls to prevent similar cases of voter fraud in the future.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process and the consequences that come with violating the law.
