Shiprock Man Pleads Guilty to Child Abuse
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The grim reality of child abuse has struck again in the heart of New Mexico, as Allan Wilson, a 64-year-old man from Shiprock, has pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor and possession of child pornography.
According to his plea, sometime between Oct. 4 and Nov. 28, 2019, Wilson engaged in abusive sexual contact with a minor while she was spending the night in the home Wilson shared with his sister on the Navajo Nation. Wilson admitted that he had been drinking heavily. The victim, identified as Jane Doe, who is also a member of the Navajo Nation, was less than twelve years old at the time.
The investigation, led by the FBI’s Farmington Resident Agency, revealed a disturbing discovery – pornographic pictures of a minor victim, identified as Jane Doe 2, on Wilson’s phone. Wilson admitted that he knew the images were on his phone, further painting a picture of a calculated and heinous crime.
Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The case highlights the critical need for increased awareness and action to protect our children from predators like Wilson.
Wilson, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled. By the terms of the plea agreement, Wilson faces up to 12 years in prison and must register as a sex offender. The harsh sentence is a timely reminder of the severity of child abuse and the need for perpetrators to be brought to justice.
The Navajo Police Department and the FBI collaborated on the investigation, which is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect our children and communities from harm.
As the nation grapples with the complex issue of child abuse, the case of Allan Wilson serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of this heinous crime. The Grimy Times will continue to shine a light on these critical issues, working tirelessly to inform and educate the public about the dangers of child abuse and the importance of prevention and prosecution.
