Child Predator Sentenced to 600 Months in Prison

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jeremy Michael Lee Powell, 25, of Athens, Alabama, was sentenced to 600 months in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release for child exploitation charges.

Powell pleaded guilty to two counts of production of child pornography in April 2023. According to court documents, Powell befriended the minor children’s mother and engaged in sexual acts with her seven- and eight-year-old children. He told the children to keep it a secret and took advantage of the fact that the children’s father was not in contact with them.

Law enforcement discovered 47 sexually explicit images involving the children on Powell’s cell phone. HSI – Birmingham investigated the case, along with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys R. Leann White, Daniel McBrayer, and William McComb prosecuted Powell.

Powell’s sentencing is a result of the ongoing commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s office and its federal, state, and local partners to identify and prosecute child predators. The prosecution of these defendants is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
