Violating Conditions of Supervised Release Lands New Haven Man 12 Months Behind Bars

BRIDGEPORT, CT – In a shocking turn of events, Alphonzo Dixon, also known as ‘Fonz,’ has been sentenced to an additional 12 months and one day in prison for violating the conditions of his supervised release.

The 29-year-old New Haven native was originally charged in 2012 as part of an FBI New Haven Safe Streets Task Force, New Haven Police Department, and Connecticut State Police investigation into drug distribution and related violence committed by members and associates of the Grape Street Crips in New Haven.

Dixon, who had been detained since March 26, 2012, subsequently pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine. He was sentenced to 46 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release.

However, on September 17, 2016, Dixon was involved in a physical altercation at a convenience store in New Haven, which ultimately led to this new sentence. Judge Stefan R. Underhill ordered Dixon to serve 22 months of supervised release when he was released from federal custody on December 31, 2015.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys H. Gordon Hall and Anthony E. Kaplan. The investigation was conducted by the FBI New Haven Safe Streets Task Force, New Haven Police Department, and Connecticut State Police.

Dixon’s sentencing serves as a reminder that violating the terms of one’s supervised release can have severe consequences. As the community continues to grapple with the effects of crime, it is essential to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
