A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Alton, Illinois. James Allen Ridder, a 34-year-old man from Alton, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography.

According to court documents, Ridder pleaded guilty to possessing still images and video images of two minors, aged 15 and 17. The minors were children known to Ridder, and the court found that he had engaged in heinous acts of child abuse.

The case was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children.

Ridder’s case was investigated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, which has a detective assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Metro East Cybercrime Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Ali Summers and Stephen Clark.

Ridder’s sentence includes 10 years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment. The court’s decision sends a stern message that child exploitation will not be tolerated in our communities.
