Man Sentenced for Domestic Assault by Habitual Offender
A Norris, South Dakota man was sentenced for his role in a shocking domestic assault by a habitual offender.
According to court documents, 45-year-old Alvin Bear Heels, Jr. was handed down a 36-month prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on February 20, 2020, in which Bear Heels allegedly brandished a knife at his daughter at their home in Norris.
Bear Heels had previously been convicted of domestic abuse in the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Court on two separate occasions, and had also been convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon against his spouse in U.S. District Court.
The case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson serving as the prosecutor.
Bear Heels was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
