South Dakota Man Indicted on Assault Charges

Gordon Primeaux, a 62-year-old man from Marty, South Dakota, has been indicted on assault charges, including Assault with Intent Commit Murder, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

According to the indictment, on or about August 22, 2020, Primeaux allegedly assaulted a male victim by repeatedly stabbing him in the chest with a knife.

Primeaux was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 7, 2020, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on October 14, 2020, where he pled not guilty to the indictment.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and up to $300 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Yankton Sioux Law Enforcement, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann M. Hoffman prosecuting the case.

Primeaux was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.

The charges against Primeaux are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
