BANGOR, Maine – In a resounding defeat for illegal immigration, Americo Lopes-Da Silva, a 37-year-old Brazilian national, faced the music in U.S. District Court today after being sentenced for his audacious return to the United States following a previous deportation.
Lopes-Da Silva was handed time served by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr., marking the culmination of a case that saw him plea guilty on May 20, 2025.
It all began on April 7, 2025, when a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in Rangeley made a routine stop. The incident unfolded as the agent ran the license plate of a white van from Massachusetts and discovered it was registered to an individual who had overstayed their visa. A closer inspection led to the apprehension of Lopes-Da Silva and his passenger inside the vehicle.
Both men readily admitted their unlawful presence, but it was Lopes-Da Silva’s checkered past that raised eyebrows. Court records showed he had been removed and deported from the U.S. in 2021. The Border Patrol promptly investigated the case, leading to today’s conviction.
This sentence comes as part of Operation Take Back America, a relentless campaign spearheaded by the Department of Justice. The initiative is designed to repel illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and shield our communities from violent crime. It leverages resources from OCDETF and PSN to streamline efforts against organized crime.
Lopes-Da Silva’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the Department of Justice’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting American citizens.
