Fla Woman Jailed for Election Law Violations
Ana Alliegro, a 44-year-old resident of Miami, has been sentenced to six months in prison for violating the Federal Election Campaign Act.
According to court documents, Alliegro engaged in a conspiracy to make false statements to the Federal Election Commission, as well as to violate the contribution limits of the Federal Election Campaign Act. She also made false statements and illegal campaign contributions.
Last year, Alliegro pleaded guilty to the charges, which stem from her actions in the Democratic Party primary election for Florida’s 26th Congressional District.
U.S. District Court Judge Robert N. Scola, Jr. handed down the sentence, which also includes six months of house arrest and two years of supervised release.
The investigation was led by the FBI’s Miami Area Corruption Task Force, and the case is being prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Thomas J. Mulvihill.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Alliegro’s actions undermined the integrity of the democratic process and compromised the public’s trust in the electoral system.
As the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Wifredo A. Ferrer commended the FBI for their work on the case, stating that their efforts helped to bring about justice and accountability.
