ANCHORAGE, AK – David Anderson, 52, of Wasilla, Alaska, will spend the rest of his life behind bars after receiving a 50-year federal sentence for the horrific kidnapping and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in November 2022. The sentence, handed down today, comes in addition to an 85-year state sentence already imposed, effectively ensuring Anderson will never be released.
The details are brutal. Court documents reveal Anderson targeted the girl as she walked home from school on November 2, 2022. He drove past her, circled back, and forcibly pulled her into his dark-colored vehicle, brandishing a revolver to ensure compliance. Once inside, he covered her head, punched her in the face, and bound her hands with duct tape. This wasn’t a crime of passion; investigators determined Anderson actively sought out a victim that day.
Anderson drove the terrified girl to a remote wooded area, continuing the assault after forcing her from the car. He then callously opened fire on her at random while she lay helpless, before abandoning her in the woods and fleeing. Miraculously, the girl survived, freeing herself and flagging down a passing vehicle. Anderson attempted to conceal the evidence by disassembling the revolver and dumping the pieces into a river.
The Alaska State Troopers swiftly arrested Anderson based on the victim’s detailed descriptions. The investigation revealed a chilling pattern: Anderson was already a convicted sex offender, having been previously convicted of sexually assaulting a minor in 2000. He pleaded guilty on January 13, 2025, to one count of kidnapping a minor and one count of committing an offense as a registered sex offender. His state sentence was delivered on October 7, 2024.
“Mr. Anderson perpetrated an unimaginable random act of horror and will spend the rest of his life in the only appropriate place, prison,” stated U.S. Attorney Michael J. Heyman for the District of Alaska. Alaska State Trooper Colonel Maurice Hughes added, “This case stands as a powerful example of how federal and state law enforcement can work together to bring the full weight of justice to bear.” The FBI Anchorage Field Office, along with the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI’s Joint Child Abduction Rapid Deployment (J-CARD) Team, spearheaded the investigation.
“While walking home from school, an innocent child was violently kidnapped and assaulted – not only was this a horrific attack on a child, but also on the very fabric of our community,” said Special Agent in Charge Rebecca Day of the FBI Anchorage Field Office. The J-CARD team, comprised of specialists from multiple agencies, played a vital role in quickly mobilizing resources and expertise. This predator is off the streets, but the scars of this trauma will undoubtedly remain. The survivor’s bravery in the face of unimaginable terror is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.”
