BECKLEY, W.Va. – A Fayette County man has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine in West Virginia in 2020.
According to court documents, Andrew Daniel Sprinkle, 34, sold methamphetamine to an undercover informant on two separate occasions in September 2020. The informant was working with law enforcement at the time of the transactions.
Sprinkle also admitted to being in possession of a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol when he sold the methamphetamine to the undercover informant on September 21, 2020. Despite being prohibited from possessing any firearms due to prior felony convictions in North Carolina, Sprinkle failed to comply with this restriction.
As a result of his actions, Sprinkle faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000 when he is sentenced on May 6, 2022. The severity of the sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit activities such as methamphetamine distribution.
The investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Beckley Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit, the Central West Virginia Drug Task Force, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, the West Virginia State Police, and the Beckley Police Department was commended by United States Attorney Will Thompson for their role in bringing Sprinkle to justice.
United States District Judge Frank W. Volk presided over the hearing, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy D. Boggess is prosecuting the case. The case number for this matter is 5:21-cr-00149.
