Tulsa Woman Sentenced to 292 Months for Fentanyl and Methamphetamine Drug Conspiracy
Tulsa, Okla. – A shocking turn of events has unfolded in Tulsa, as U.S. District Judge John D. Russell sentenced Shelly Annette McElroy, 53, for her role in a devastating fentanyl and methamphetamine drug conspiracy.
Shelly Annette McElroy, a local resident, was handed down a heavy sentence of 292 months imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release. The harsh punishment comes after a lengthy investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Tulsa Police Department.
According to court documents, the trouble began in October 2023, when Tulsa Police officers conducted a routine traffic stop due to an expired tag. McElroy, who was driving the vehicle without a valid driver’s license and insurance, sped off after officers observed a large box containing small baggies of white crystal substance.
During the pursuit, McElroy threw the box out of the vehicle, which was later found to contain more than 110 grams of fentanyl and over 2,760 grams of methamphetamine. McElroy’s cousin and co-defendant, Gary Don McElroy, was also in the vehicle during the traffic stop and was arrested after the pursuit.
Gary Don McElroy has since pled guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Adam McConney and Niko Boulieris prosecuted the case, bringing justice to the community.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of fentanyl and methamphetamine on our communities. As the nation grapples with the opioid epidemic, cases like McElroy’s highlight the need for continued efforts to combat the scourge of drug trafficking.
Shelly Annette McElroy will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. The sentence is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors in bringing perpetrators to justice.
