Paducah, KY – In a stark reminder of the dangers of narcotics trafficking, a Hopkinsville man has been sentenced to 14 years and 5 months in federal prison for conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl while on federal supervision from a previous conviction.
A joint effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky, the DEA Louisville Field Division, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hopkinsville Police Department led to the conviction of Daniel Major, 43, of Hopkinsville.
According to court documents, Major was sentenced to 11 years and 8 months in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, for one count of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute fentanyl.
Major’s troubles didn’t end there, as he received an additional sentence of 2 years and 9 months for violating his federal supervision on a previous conviction.
The case was investigated by the DEA Paducah Post of Duty, with assistance from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and the Hopkinsville Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Leigh Ann Dycus, of the U.S. Attorney’s Paducah Branch Office, prosecuted the case, bringing Major to justice for his crimes.
There is no parole in the federal system, a stark reminder that once you’ve locked up, you’re in for the long haul. Major’s sentence is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies in Kentucky to combat the scourge of narcotics trafficking.
