Crimes of Violence Plague South Bend: Andrew Jacobs, 20, Sentenced to 84 Months in Prison
In a disturbing case of violence, Andrew Jacobs, 20, of South Bend, Indiana, has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. The sentence was handed down by South Bend District Court Judge Jon E. DeGuilio.
According to documents in the case, Jacobs worked together with Lorenzo Crawford, also 20, to place an advertisement for escort services on Backpage.com. They waited for a man to respond to the ad and, upon his arrival, they grabbed him and proceeded to beat him. One of the defendants brought a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver with them, which was used to beat the victim.
The defendants not only beat the victim but also took cash, credit cards, and a cell phone from him. While the victim was at the hotel, one of the defendants checked his car for money or other valuables.
The case was investigated by the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys John Maciejczyk and Ken Hays handling the case. This sentencing serves as a reminder of the dangers of violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
Jacobs’ sentence includes 84 months of imprisonment followed by 2 years of supervised release. Lorenzo Crawford, who was also sentenced in the same case, received the same sentence.
The case highlights the need for increased awareness and action to prevent crimes of violence and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
