Local Man’s Descent into Drug Dealing Ends in Guilty Plea

Andrew O’Connor, a 36-year-old Cohoes resident, has taken a drastic turn towards the dark side, pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine in his hometown. The 36-year-old’s downfall began in March 2022, when he started peddling ounce-quantities of the highly addictive substance.

But O’Connor’s troubles didn’t end there. Investigators with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the FBI’s Capital District Safe Streets Gang Task Force caught wind of his operation and intercepted a shipment of over one pound of methamphetamine sent to him on June 15, 2022. The package was seized, marking a significant blow to O’Connor’s burgeoning crime empire.

But even in the face of overwhelming evidence, O’Connor continued to scheme, contacting a co-conspirator to arrange the destruction of several of his cell phones after his arrest. This brazen attempt to cover his tracks only served to further incriminate the defendant, who now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

As part of his guilty plea, O’Connor admitted to distributing methamphetamine in Cohoes on multiple occasions. His sentencing is scheduled for August 23, 2023, before U.S. District Judge Anne M. Nardacci. At that time, he will face a minimum sentence of ten years and a maximum sentence of life in prison, as well as a fine of up to $10 million and a post-imprisonment term of supervised release of at least five years and up to life.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin C. Segovia is leading the prosecution of this case, which was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the FBI’s Capital District Safe Streets Gang Task Force. The involvement of multiple law enforcement agencies highlights the complexity and severity of O’Connor’s crimes.
