Angela Courington Sentenced to 9 Years for Bank Fraud in Florida

Orlando, Florida – A Volusia County woman has received a harsh sentence for her role in a multi-million dollar bank fraud scheme. Angela Courington, 65, was sentenced to nine years and three months in federal prison for bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Courington entered a guilty plea on June 5, 2024, and was subsequently sentenced by U.S. District Judge John Antoon II. As part of her sentence, the court also entered an order of forfeiture in the amount of $2,201,836.40, the proceeds of the fraud.

The investigation revealed that Courington, who served as the accounting manager for her employer’s companies, stole more than $2.2 million between January 2013 and October 2022. The funds were obtained through a series of forged checks, credit card abuse, and unauthorized withdrawals from her employer’s personal bank account.

Courington’s scheme involved making at least 84 company checks payable to herself without authorization by fraudulently forging the signature of the company owner. She then documented the forged checks in the companies’ accounting systems as legitimate expenses, concealing her fraud.

As part of her scheme, Courington also used the companies’ credit cards and her employer’s personal bank account funds for her own benefit, including significant sums to fund her gambling habit.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kara M. Wick. Courington’s actions have resulted in a significant financial loss for her employer and his companies, and a lengthy prison sentence for herself.
