Newton Woman Sentenced to Prison on Meth Charges

Angelina Fortenberry, 36, of Newton, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for her role in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution network, announced U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis and DEA Special Agent in Charge Keith Brown.

The indictment of Fortenberry stems from the DEA’s “Operation Yeti Ice”, a far-reaching Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation that targeted illegal narcotics distribution in central Mississippi.

“Operation Yeti Ice” was a multi-agency operation that involved the distribution of over 100 Kilograms of Methamphetamine and spanned across the states of California and Mississippi.

The OCDETF program is a joint federal, state, and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking and is the nation’s primary tool for disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations, targeting national and regional level drug trafficking organizations, and coordinating the necessary law enforcement entities and resources to disrupt or dismantle the targeted criminal organization and seize their assets.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Chalk. The extensive investigation involved the following law enforcement agencies: the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the U.S. Marshal Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Postal Service, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Leake County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Carthage Police Department, the Forest Police Department, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, the Decatur Police Department, the Richland Police Department, the Pearl Police Department, the Ridgeland Police Department, and the Jackson Police Department.

Fortenberry’s 46-month sentence and three-year term of supervised release are the result of her involvement in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution network that brought in substantial profits for her and her associates. Her actions had far-reaching consequences, affecting communities across central Mississippi and beyond.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and law enforcement agencies involved in this case remain committed to disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations and bringing perpetrators to justice.
