ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – A local man has been handed a five-year prison sentence for his role in a firearms and drug trafficking scheme.
Angelo Burdex, 29, of Albuquerque, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for violating federal firearms and drug trafficking laws. The sentence will be followed by 10 years of supervised release.
Burdex was involved in a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in October and November 2015, in Bernalillo County. He was charged, along with co-defendant Desmirk Sharber, 25, also of Albuquerque, in separate criminal complaints in November 2015. According to court documents, Burdex and Sharber distributed approximately 58 grams of crack cocaine to undercover law enforcement agents on October 2, 2015.
On August 26, 2016, Burdex pled guilty to an information charging him with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute on October 2, 2015. His co-defendant, Sharber, pled guilty on July 22, 2016, to an information charging him with distribution of crack cocaine on November 2, 2015.
The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Norman Cairns is prosecuting the case.
Burdex’s sentence is a result of his involvement in the distribution of crack cocaine, which is a serious crime. The 58 grams of crack cocaine distributed on October 2, 2015, is a significant amount and has a substantial impact on the community.
