Angolan National Jailed for Defying Deportation Orders
ALEXANDRIA, La. – A notorious Angolan national, Faustino Ngay, has been sentenced to six months in prison for refusing to leave the country twice after being ordered to depart. The 46-year-old Cazengo native was found guilty of two counts of failure to depart following a one-day trial that ended on November 29, 2016.
Evidence presented in court revealed that on November 17, 2015, U.S. Immigration Enforcement Agents attempted to remove Ngay from the country via the Alexandria International Airport by putting him on a commercial flight. However, Ngay hampered the agents’ ability to remove him by verbally and physically resisting.
The defendant’s outbursts prevented him from boarding the flights due to airline and Transportation Security Administration safety policies. This was not an isolated incident, as Ngay was involved in a similar altercation on December 14, 2015, when he again resisted deportation at the Alexandria airport.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations conducted the investigation into Ngay’s activities. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dominic Rossetti prosecuted the case, resulting in the defendant’s guilty verdict.
Ngay’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Dee D. Drell. The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of defying deportation orders and the importance of cooperation with immigration authorities.
The sentence of six months in prison is a significant one, and it is hoped that it will serve as a deterrent to others who may be considering similar actions. The people of Louisiana can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case.
