Today, the gritty streets of Annapolis were hit with another headline as Dalonte Ray Jones, 21, entered a guilty plea for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The District of Maryland’s U.S. Attorney, Kelly O. Hayes, along with Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno of the FBI and Chief Edward Jackson of the Annapolis Police Department (APD), announced Jones’ conviction.
Jones was nabbed on November 11, 2024, when law enforcement executed a search warrant at his apartment. Inside, they found a Glock 17 semi-automatic handgun, equipped with an extended magazine, holding a dangerous payload of 17 live rounds. The firearm had been reported stolen in 2023 and contained Jones’ DNA, as well as that of three others.
Further investigation led to the discovery of numerous videos on Jones’ iPhone showing him handling various firearms, including the one he was caught with. Despite knowing his previous felony convictions – second-degree assault charges in January and April of 2023 – Jones was found to be in possession of the handgun while on probation for the latter conviction.
Jones faces up to 15 years in federal prison for the charge. Sentencing is set for Monday, December 8th, at 2 p.m. before Judge Brendan A. Hurson.
This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence. U.S. Attorney Hayes commended the FBI and APD for their relentless pursuit in investigating this matter. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul E. Budlow is handling the prosecution.
