In a shocking indictment, Annapolis resident George Luton, 49, has been charged with 9 counts of sexually exploiting a minor.
According to the indictment, Luton used, persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct on multiple occasions in March 2024. He also attempted to do the same on another occasion.
The indictment further charges that on April 6, 2024, Luton traveled in interstate commerce with the intention of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with another person.
The charges against Luton are serious, with the law providing for a sentence of up to 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. The actual sentence will be based on the seriousness of the offenses and Luton’s prior criminal history, if any.
Luton is currently being held in detention pending trial. Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kiskiminetas Township Police Department, and Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
An indictment is an accusation, and Luton is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case will now proceed to trial, where the prosecution will attempt to prove the charges against Luton.
