SPRINGFIELD, MO – Anthony Brandon, 51, is headed to federal prison for 18 years after a raid on his Springfield home uncovered a meth stash and an arsenal of illegal firearms. U.S. District Judge Roseann A. Ketchmark handed down the sentence on Monday, March 4th, designating Brandon a career offender due to a lengthy and violent criminal record.
The bust went down on May 23, 2019, when Springfield Police, backed by the DEA and ATF, executed a search warrant at Brandon’s residence. Under a couch cushion in the living room, officers found over 75 grams of methamphetamine, neatly packaged into five individual bags. A Taurus 9mm handgun was also recovered from the same location. The search didn’t stop there – an Eagle Arms AR10 .62-caliber rifle was discovered in a bedroom closet, along with an extended 32-round magazine for the 9mm and additional ammunition.
Brandon quickly admitted to authorities he wasn’t just a user, but a key component in a larger drug operation. He confessed to using his home as a storage facility for his supplier’s methamphetamine, expecting a cut of the profits as payment. He was essentially running a meth house, turning his property into a hub for illegal activity. The 18-year sentence reflects the gravity of his role and the danger he posed to the community.
This wasn’t Brandon’s first dance with the law. His rap sheet is extensive, detailing a pattern of violent crimes, assaults, and repeated drug offenses. He’s also been convicted of theft, stealing, burglary, and robbery, painting a picture of a career criminal with no regard for the law. The “career offender” designation ensured a harsher sentence, recognizing the depth of his criminal history.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cameron A. Beaver and Jessica R. Eatmon spearheaded the prosecution, building a solid case based on the evidence seized during the raid and Brandon’s own admissions. The successful collaboration between the Springfield Police Department, the DEA, and the ATF was crucial in bringing Brandon to justice. The investigation highlights the ongoing federal effort to dismantle drug trafficking operations and remove dangerous individuals from the streets.
Brandon pleaded guilty on March 15, 2022, to one count of controlling a drug-involved premises and one count of possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. With no chance of parole, Brandon will spend the next 18 years confined to a federal prison, a consequence of his choices and a warning to others involved in the dangerous world of methamphetamine trafficking. The case serves as a stark reminder that federal agencies are actively working to curb the flow of illegal drugs and weapons in Missouri and beyond.
