Grimy Times Investigation: Counterfeit Money Scheme Rocks Elkins Community
ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – A brazen scheme to manufacture and use counterfeit money has come to an end for Elkins resident Anthony Francis Silvester, III, who was sentenced to 30 months behind bars for his crimes.
Silvester, 30, was found guilty of passing a counterfeit $100 bill at a local business in August 2016. He admitted to the crime in May 2017, when he pled guilty to one count of ‘Uttering Counterfeit Obligations and Securities.’
According to authorities, Silvester’s scheme was uncovered after a thorough investigation by the United States Secret Service, the West Virginia State Police, and the Elkins Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah M. Wagner on behalf of the government.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case, handing down the sentence for Silvester’s crimes. The 30-month sentence reflects the gravity of the offense, which threatened the financial stability of the Elkins community.
Silvester’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in counterfeiting. His actions not only compromised the integrity of the financial system but also undermined the trust of local businesses and residents.
The Elkins community can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that justice has been served. As Grimy Times continues to investigate and expose those who seek to exploit and deceive, we remain committed to keeping our readers informed about the latest developments in the world of crime and justice.
